Now open 3- Patch click Artificial Academy 2 DLC HF Patch keep pressing next and choose recommended. If the patch doesnt find the installation folder simply do it manually.) When its done apply Artificial Academy 2 HF Patch do the exact same thing. The game should now be patched and updated, open the shortcut it created and test the game out. A: The HF patch is a collection of separate items you may or may not need to install. It usually rolls up the latest official updates, translations, uncensors, and a few other bits. It's an irreversible install, which is why I prefer installing each item individually. You'll need Japanese locale to run most Japanese games, including Artificial Academy 2. This is the easiest way to set it up, no need to play with Windows settings or anything. If you're on Windows 10 go back to 7 or 8.1. Artificial Academy 2 HF Patch This patch installs official official patches v2 to v12' (2.0.1 141015), Append Set I Support 141014, Append Set II Support 141110, English translations and uncensor for Artificial Academy 2 + Append Set I+II (if you have them) as well as other essential mods.

  8. ** IF YOU ARE USING THE HF PATCH FOR AA2 **
  9. This install guide is not for you. This is for installing manually, in the event that you don't want to wait for HF patch to get updated, or you want finer control over mods you install. If you already installed HF patch and want to use this guide, uninstall and wipe your game installation folder, then reinstall from scratch using the directions below. Likewise, I don't recommend installing via this method then going to harass Hongfire for support.
  10. Complete Idiot's Guide to Installing Artificial Academy 2, patches, DLC, and mods
  11. This guide will serve to counsel new users on installation of the essential components needed to run AA2 in English.
  12. BEFORE YOU START: You will need MS Applocale or HF pApplocale if you're on Windows 7 or 8/8.1, if you're on Windows 10 It's highly recommended that you use Locale Emulator as applocale simply doesn't work. If you opt instead to set your system locale to Japanese, REMEMBER TO CHANGE FORMATS (Formats tab in Region settings) to Japanese as well, or text WILL be screwed up, in addition to some things not working/displaying. ONLY USE EITHER APPLOCALE OR JAPANESE SYSTEM LOCALE, NOT BOTH. If for some reason you're on Windows 8/8.1 and applocale doesn't work, then you should try Locale Emulator.
  13. FOLLOW THE IMAGES IN THIS GUIDE: http://imgur.com/a/KZYsw
  14. DON'T install anything to the default Japanese-named folders, edit every install directory to something readable.
  15. DON'T install to Program Files or other system-default directories, or you may not have write access to save characters and games unless you run as admin. This goes for utilities like Wizzard as well. Run almost everything with Applocale -- installer, update files, maker and game executables, translated maker loader, etc. If it shows Japanese anywhere, or you know it is of Japanese origin, use Applocale.
  16. DON'T move the game after installing it. IF YOU DO, you will have to edit the registry: http://imgur.com/aIkEM5B
  17. DON'T install the game, mod tools, or patch files to a deep folder structure. Keep it short and simple, I recommend c:illusion but it should work on any partition.
  18. 01. Obtain the game, the sukebei.nyaa.se torrent in the /aa2g/ OP is what this is based off of.
  19. 02. Open the game archive and extract the three multiple-gigabyte .mdf files to a temporary folder. Don't extract anything else, only the .mdf images are needed. RENAME ジンコウガクエン2.mdf to something simple and English like DISK1.mdf.
  20. 03. Use your preferred virtual disc software to mount DISK1.mdf, do not autorun. PowerISO, MagicISO, and Daemon Tools Lite all should work. If your mounting software supports multiple virtual drives, you can mount all three disks to different drive letters and have an uninterrupted installation process.
  21. 04. Navigate to the mounted disk, right-click to use Applocale to launch Startup.exe in Japanese locale as Administrator. If you don't have the right-click option even after installing AppLocale, you can run it from the Start Menu and Browse.. to the Startup.exe on the first disk. Japanese is the last language on the drop-down list.
  22. 05. Click the third button (INCLUDING the greyed-out options) to install the AA2 Maker (character creator/editor). I recommend installing it to a folder separate from the main game. Remember to change the install path to something simple and non-Japanese, for example c:illusionaa2make. During all these installations, (N) means Next, (B) means Back, (I) means Install, and (F) means Finish.
  23. 06. When that's finished, click the fourth button on the install menu to install the game. As before, choose a nice, simple install path with no Japanese characters.
  24. 07. If you didn't mount all three MDF files, 1/3 of the way through, it will prompt you to insert the second disk. Now is the time to dismount DISK1.MDF and mount DISK2.MDF.
  25. 08. Repeat as above for disk 3, if necessary. The base game installation is now finished.
  26. 09. Now that the game is installed, you'll be wanting the DLC and updates next. Make sure you have the latest version of 7-zip!

  29. The updates can also be downloaded individually in the main pastebin.
  30. 01 - Pre-order Bonus
  31. 03 - Illusion Special Member Bonus
  32. 05 - Append Set 1
  33. 07 - Append Set 2
  34. 09 - All-inclusive v12 Patch
  35. Extract this 7z file and run these in the numbered order with Applocale. Be sure to follow steps 9-11 here: http://imgur.com/a/KZYsw
  36. ** If the Append 2 patches don't work, try running them as admin as well as in Japanese **
  37. 10. This completes the game installation. You can test functionality by mounting DISK1.mdf and opening AA2Play.exe with applocale/Locale Emulator if you'd like -- 'game start' is the top button. You're not done yet if you want to play in English, however.
  38. INSTALLING MODS [mod02]
  39. 1. For mods, download the Illusion Wizzard /or/ AA2Install utility with AA2 profile from the link in the main pastebin. Unzip to a folder in your game directory, I use c:illusionwizzard. This will serve as your installation hub for most mods you want to apply. Some are specifically not Wizzard/AA2Install-ready. Always read the README. It will also allow you to uninstall mods and revert changed files so you can apply future updates/DLC without reinstalling the whole game from scratch. I don't recommend using it to launch the game or maker, just because it needlessly complicates the process.
  40. 2. Dialog translation, UI, translated names and stuff -- almost everything listed in the main pastebin under '/aa2g/ Mods' should be wizzard-ready. If you need further details on wizzard usage, see the next section.
  41. 3. Once you install the /aa2g/ translation, UI translation, and whichever uncensor mod you prefer [I suggest avoiding the HQ/LQ skin versions for now], you're finished. You can start the game by running AA2Play.exe with Japanese locale and pressing the top button. The second button is for graphics configuration, but you may need an English launcher to get the config setup for the first time.
  42. ** Quick footnote: Only use one dialog translation or uncensor mod at a time. Applying more than one simultaneously might break things.
  43. Wizzard is a utility for adding and removing mods. It is not (generally) used to launch the game. It is not used to install Illusion patches. I can't even believe I have to write this guide. You seriously just drag and drop mods, then open Wizzard and press 'Apply mod' or 'Remove mod'.
  44. 01. Download the Illusion Wizzard.
  45. 02. Extract the archive somewhere like c:illusionwizzard.
  46. ** NOTE: If you extract the Wizzard to Program Files or certain folders in My Documents, it will not have sufficient privileges to write the data it needs to in order to function. You will get file not found errors related to preview images and descriptions, and most critically it will not be able to back up your game data files when applying mods.
  47. 03. Start Illusion_Wizzard.exe, select AA2_PLAY from the dropdown on the left, click 'Start', then exit. This creates the folder where you put mods.
  48. 04. Drag and drop mods in .7z format directly into the wizzardAA2_PLAYmods folder. DO NOT EXTRACT THEM. JUST PUT THE 7Z FILES IN THERE.
  49. 05. Start the Wizzard again. Provided you have the game installed correctly, you don't have to do any configuration, it will find your install via the game's registry entries.
  50. 06. You should see a list of available mods. Find one you want to install. Click it. Now click the 'Apply mod' button at the bottom. If you want to remove a mod, click the 'Installed Mods' tab. Click the mod. Click 'Remove mod' button at the bottom.
  51. 07. If you are updating a mod you already had installed, remove the old version as in step 06, then apply the new version. Mods are not highly scripted install routines, they may break if you just keep piling new stuff on top of old.
  52. 08. You are now an expert at adding and removing AA2 mods, congratulations.
  53. IT IS NORMAL FOR MODS TO TAKE A LONG TIME TO INSTALL. SOME CAN TAKE 30 MINUTES OR MORE AND USE DOZENS OF GIGABYTES OF HARD DRIVE SPACE DURING INSTALLATION.
  54. Brief note: Translations will almost always break if you install an official Illusion update over top of them. This is normal, because it's the wrong way to do it. Use Wizzard to remove mods first, then apply the Illusion update, then re-apply mods.
  55. Note #2: I've never needed to, but one anon reports that Wizzard needs to be run with Applocale as admin. Might only apply if you're launching the game or maker through it, which I don't recommend. In any case, try that if it's giving you trouble.
  56. AA2Install is a nice alternative to Wizzard, most people recommend it over Wizzard due to it's ability to install mods MUCH faster, but the program itself can be a little confusing at times and it has a few drawbacks. I'd recommend reading the official guide after this one just in case. Overall this one's more self-explanatory than Wizzard.
  57. 01. Download AA2Install.
  58. 02. Extract the archive somewhere like c:illusionAA2Install
  59. 04. Run .exe
  60. 05. Click the checkboxes next to the mods you're installing, and then click Synchronize (Heads up, make backup of your files.)
  61. 07. You're done pretty much when you get a pop up (you'll know it when you see it)
  62. OPTIONAL COMPONENTS [opt05]
  63. [Get these from the main pastebin or the Mega link in the Resources section]
  64. - Get the AA2TL Translated Maker Loader
  65. This translates the Maker (AA2Edit.exe) into English. It makes character creation much, much easier. Note that it does not replace AA2Edit.exe, so don't delete that file. This just loads AA2Edit.exe and changes text to English. Remember to start it with Japanese locale. This program can also be used to start the unlocked maker below, if you change its filename to AA2Edit.exe.
  66. - Get the 'unlocked' Frontier Pack maker
  67. [included in the Frontier Pack Launchers Mega link]
  68. This works the same as the stock AA2Edit.exe file, and can be used with the Translated Maker Loader, provided you rename it to AA2Edit.exe. This allows you to add an unlimited number of traits to your character, and set certain parameters beyond their normal bounds by entering them directly in the text box. It also enables an unlocked hue slider so you can create characters with blue or green skin.
  69. ** Also allows you to run the maker without mounting any disks.
  70. - Get the Frontier Pack launcher
  71. I know I recommended using the stock Japanese launcher above, but this launcher lets you do neat things like open the buddha statue interface anywhere [RMB+click on roster button], and force a 999% on any interaction [RMB+click on any action]. Takes all the challenge out, but it's fun to play with sometimes. It's also required for proper color on blue/green/etc characters in-game.
  72. ** Also allows you to run the game without mounting any disks.
  73. - Get JG2ChrData
  74. This utility allows you to edit characters in-place without withdrawing them from your current class, to add/remove traits, etc. Partially translated, and sometimes glitchy, but it's preferable if you don't want to reset your relationship progress with a character to edit them in the normal Maker.
  75. ** BE CAREFUL with this. It works fine, but if you open a class file while it's open in the game, the file will corrupt and you will lose the save. Make backups before editing.
  76. - Get ReiEditAA2
  77. A very nice mod manager that makes selecting mods that alter skin a breeze. Includes tans, lipstick, skin textures themselves, and a few other things.
  78. Most of everyone has HEXAOC, HEXAHP, and either HEXACC or SVICC. Feel free to try everything out, and monitor the thread. Things are constantly being updated. This game is all about personal preferences and there are mods for almost everything.
  79. All files mentioned herein can be located using the following resources. I'm not hardlinking each individual thing because stuff changes too rapidly for me to feasibly maintain this guide doing so. Most are linked directly from the /aa2g/ pastebin. Follow these links, read, Ctrl+F, use forum search, if all else fails use Google. I trust you can manage.

  85. Q: What does 'Normalfags go die' in the Buddha statue mean?
  86. A: Other students are jealous or envious of your public displays of affection with your partner.
  87. Q1: Why does dialog text have u and v before and after each line?
  88. Q2: The maker and/or game install doesn't let me edit the install path, why is everything blank?
  89. A1: Because you didn't read the very first part of the guide, where I told you that if you're using Japanese system locale, you also need to set Format to Japanese.
  90. A2: Because you didn't install with Japanese locale as administrator.
  91. Q: The maker installation runs fine, but doesn't let me edit the install path. Why?
  92. A: Because you still have the pre-release maker installed, or a previous installation of the release version maker. This is dictating to the installer where it should install. Uninstall first, then your new installation will work properly.
  93. Q: What's the HF patch, and why isn't it in your guide?
  94. A: The HF patch is a collection of separate items you may or may not need to install. It usually rolls up the latest official updates, translations, uncensors, and a few other bits. It's an irreversible install, which is why I prefer installing each item individually. You're not ever going to need to revert Illusion's official patches, but new updates might break your installed translation or UI mods, for example. So it's beneficial to be able to easily roll those back, apply updates, then re-apply your mods, without having to wait for someone else to aggregate them for you. Feel free to use the HF patch if you want, but don't ask anyone but Hongfire for help with it, and don't use this guide together with it.
  95. Q: My game is crashing, what do I do?
  96. A1: You have a corrupt character card or class save file. In Windows Explorer, sort the files by date, move the most recently added/modified out to a temporary folder, and re-add them until you find which one is crashing the game.
  97. A2: Uninstall the 'HQ skin' uncensor mod. It causes memory leaks and crashiness, especially for toaster PCs. Not sure if 'LQ skin' version is similarly affected.
  98. A3: Verify you're using the correct launcher version for the Illusion game update you have installed. Right-click AA2Play.exe (or whatever custom launcher you're using), select Properties, then look at the Details tab. Version 1.03 is for v3 update, 1.04 for v4, etc.
  99. A4: If you're using the English translated launcher, try running the game with the standard Japanese AA2Play.exe. The English launcher can introduce some instability.
  100. A5: Close your web browser and try again. This works for quite a few people. Then try restarting your PC.
  101. A6: Alternatively, you may have done something out of order, overwriting something important. If all else fails, reinstall the game from scratch.
  102. Q: My game runs poorly and looks bad, what can I do?
  103. A: Try running it with highest graphics settings. No, seriously. Somehow Illusion has perfected the alchemy required to make a game run worse on lower settings.
  104. Q: My game has only a white screen on startup or in the F1 config menu / my config menu has checkboxes and sliders everywhere, what happened?
  105. Q: My game looks messed up, there are lines through things / something else is wrong, what do I do?
  106. A: Uninstall the game, start again from the beginning. You missed a step somewhere, or some other catastrophic failure of comprehension. This can also happen if you install an update without reverting your mods first. Reinstall will fix it unless you're having hardware problems. Lines and artifacting are common symptoms of failing / overheating GPU.
  107. Q: My maker / game suddenly started freezing / crashing / failing to launch without any file changes, what do I do?
  108. A: Close Firefox, Skype, or other memory-heavy programs and try again. Don't ask me why, but it works. Nips apparently code like it's still 1995.
  109. Q: The maker isn't saving character cards / the game isn't saving my progress, what happened?
  110. A1: You installed the game to Program Files or another system-default folder that's write-protected. You can either run it every time as admin to gain write access, or move your install somewhere like c:illusionaa2. If you do move the folder, remember to use the Registry Fixer linked in the main /aa2g/ pastebin to point to the new folder.
  111. A2: For the maker, you also have to provide at least a last name (family name) or you cannot save your character card.
  112. Q: When I launch the game, I get an error message in Japanese. What do I do?
  113. A1: You didn't mount DISK1.mdf while using the stock, unmodified AA2Play.exe. You need to hex edit a value to enable no-disc. See the note at the end of the install guide.
  114. A2: You screwed up your install. The registry entries for AA2 think the game is somewhere else. Use the registry fixer utility to rectify this.
  115. Q: I'm getting an error about the path being too long, what does this mean?
  116. A: It means you can't follow instructions. Your path, that is, the string of characters that tells the location of the file you're using, is exceeding what your OS supports. This is really dumb. Just put the game in c:illusion or something similar.
  117. Q: When I launch Wizzard, it says there are Japanese characters in my path, even though there aren't. What happened?
  118. A: You didn't follow the guide. You installed to Japanese directories and then renamed them after the fact. The registry entries for AA2's install path are still referring to those Japanese folders. You'll need to use the registry fixer utility.
  119. Q: My game is stuck on a black screen after alt+tabbing, what do I do?
  120. A: Install the fullscreen window mod, mirrored conveniently in the Mega link under Resources. Just drop the contained d3d9.dll into the same folder with AA2Play.exe and AA2Edit.exe. Following that, you can alt+tab without issue. I personally prefer running in windowed mode.
  121. Q: How can I tell if a mod is Wizzard-compatible?
  122. A: Open the 7z archive (it's always a 7z archive). If there's a AA2_PLAY and/or AA2_EDIT folder containing some jg2_* folders, it's Wizzard-ready. It may optionally contain an image or two for previews and a text file for the description pane in the Wizzard.
  123. Q: Why do the legs of character models look like matryoshka [Russian nesting] dolls?
  124. A: You're using the high heels and/or spats mod with game update v3 or above. Don't. v3 broke them and there's no indication so far that they will be fixed, as far as I know.
  125. Q: How do I get blue / purple / other unnatural colored character cards to appear properly in the game?
  126. A: Use the Frontier Pack game launcher and maker. They're linked in the main pastebin, and the only ones currently to support the unlocked hues needed for these cards.
  127. Q: How do I make rainbow cards?
  128. A: Use the alternate maker included with the unlocked character maker, it creates rainbows 100% of the time. If you want to change one to a rainbow, just open it with that maker and save it.
  129. Q: How do I zoom in the maker / in h-scenes?
  130. A: Left click and drag rotates, right click and drag pans and zooms.
  131. Q: Why are my character's items / clubs in Japanese?
  132. A: You can edit these to whatever you like. Items in the maker, clubs when starting a new class. Just type in something in English. There's a new file in the main /aa2g/ pastebin that translates these called Translated Names and Stuff List.
  133. Q: A character asked me to wait for them somewhere, but the location is in Japanese. What does that mean?
  134. A: They want you to wait in a specific room for them next period. Open your location map during the next period, the designated place will have a red stick-figure indicating where you need to be.
  135. Q: Why does the karaoke scene close immediately?
  136. A: You need to add music for it. There's a folder for each personality in AA2_PLAYdatasound. The text file within one of these folders instructs to add .wav files of music you want to hear during karaoke. .ogg files should also work, saving a ton of space.
  137. Q: Why do a few of my characters have a blank emotionless face?
  138. A: Either you don't have HEXAOC or you don't have a mod in the card's description.
  139. Q: How come when I open a card in the maker it has elf ears?
  140. A: Because it utilizes a face in HEXAOC and can't be properly loaded due to limitations with the Maker's software.
  141. Also what are you doing editing other people's cards that's rude dude.

Running the Game

  • Q: I keep getting 0% on all interactions. Please help!?
A: You must run the game (AA2Play.exe/AA2Play English.exe) with Japanese locale and Formats set to Japanese. Better yet, set your locale to your native locale and use AppLocale (or HF pApploc)). NOTE: You can't use AppLocale or HF pAppLoc on Windows 10. You can use NTLEA, but the subtitle mod will not work. The best alternative seems to be Locale Emulator, read more. If the subtitles mod still doesn't work, use SBAppLocale (follow the instructions from a question below).
  • Q: My game freezes (or they just stand there and I can't do anything) on all/some conversations. Help!?

  • Q: I am trying to run the Subtitles mod on Windows 10 using Local Emulator and nothing happens when I click Run with Subs or the game starts but in game I can't see any 3D model?
A: It's a random issue, on some environments Local Emulator works propertly with the subtitles mod, sometimes not. A working alternative is SBAppLocale. Download SBAppLocale. Extract the archive in the AA2Play folder (where the main game executable is located). Then create a .bat file calling it whatever you want (a .bat file is a simple text file with the extension changed, follow the step 1 from this tutorial if you feel in trouble), and paste this line into it:
Then double click the .bat file to start playing.
  • Q: How do I zoom in, mouse wheel is getting me nothing?
A: Right click and move the mouse.

Artificial Academy 2 Hf Patch Version 4.11 Download

  • Q: The Maker/game stops working (or just quit silently) when I click Play/Game Start/Run with Subs?
A: This is known to happen (rare) and can be caused by your browser (Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer) running in the background. Try closing any open applications (browser etc.) and then try again. If that doesn't help, try restarting Windows and then run the game as the first/only thing after logging on.
GeForce error
  • Q: I get this error about Direct3DCreate9x in d3d9.dll when I run the game? (see GeForce error on the right)
A: This is caused by the latest GeForce Experience update 2.1.2. You can either ignore the errors (just click OK to them all) and the game will work just fine and wait for NVIDIA to release an update that fixes it, or you can uninstall GeForce Experience and install the previous version.
Insert disk 1
  • Q: When I run the game I get an error? (see Insert disk 1 on the right)
A: Make sure that you mounted DISK1.mdf (i.e. ジンコウガクエン2.mdf renamed to DISK1.mdf) or use a nodvd launcher.
Text issue - caused by not using Japanese locale properly
  • Q: The text is not displayed correctly (I see only ??? or 'u' and 'v' characters like on the Text issue picture on the right) and I already set my system locale to Japanese?
A1: Use AppLocale instead (or HF pApploc), but make sure your 'Region and Language' settings are in your native language; AppLocale will not work properly if it already thinks you're running in Japanese.
A2: You need to set Formats and non-unicode programs (under Administrative) under 'Region and Language' to Japanese (setting only non-unicode to Japanese is not enough with this game).
  • Q: I have a trait/personality/etc in my game that doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere?
A: The translation of personalities, traits, sexual prefs, items etc. are subject to change until after the game has been launched. To ensure that you have the latest official translations go here.
  • Q: My game just randomly crashes and I've tried reinstalling so many times, my system locale is japanese.
A3: It might be because you load hacked characters or that use mods that you don't have installed. Easiest way to make sure is to load all characters you want to play with in AA2Edit one by one, review the hair/traits/sex prefs etc. and then save the character as a new file (System tab). Then you can start the game and safely load the characters you just saved.
  • Q: When I click the 'save' button in my room nothing happens, neither the 'Game Saved!' message appears. Help?
A: Create a 'class' folder in the <AA2Play>datasave folder. This error is probably because you downloaded one of the 'pre-installed' games available and you didn't read/follow the readme.
Bad installation
  • Q: Does anyone know what this error means (see Bad installation picture on the right)? It keeps showing up every time I talk to someone or they talk to me in game. All I have to do is click it to make it go away but its very annoying! Anyone know what it says?
A: You installed the maker and game in the same folder (instead of following the Quick step-by-step guide below). Playing full screen may suppress the error, but otherwise install the game like suggested below to fix it.
  • Q: When I run the game I see only a black screen? btw, I run the game in full screen and I installed the Windowed Fullscreen 2.0 mod.
A: The Windowed Fullscreen mod is intended for running the game windowed in your desktop resolution (set the game resolution to match your desktop in Options on the AA2Play launcher). The purpose of the mod is that the game will seem to be in fullscreen, but you will be able to Alt-Tab etc. without it crashing/just showing a black screen. If you wish to run the game in full screen you should just delete the mod, i.e. delete <your AA2Play folder>d3d9.dll.
  • Q: I have no voice audio and I tried everything?
A: If you have 5/7.1 make sure that the middle jack is connected, because that's where the voices are.
  • Q: I'm getting an error: 'Could not find the resource DLL file: alres409.dll'
A1: Your computer is probably already in Japanese Locale Regional Settings. You do not need to use the HFAppLoc's Run with Japanese locale. Run the program directly or Run as administrator depending on the exe file you are attempting to open.
A2: Uninstall AppLocale and HF pAppLoc from the control panel, restart and then install HF pApploc.
  • Q: I'm getting an error: 'The program can't start because d3dx9_43.dll is missing from your computer.'
A1: If you get this error it means you have to install DirectX 9.0c. Even if you already have a newer version you may still have to download this if you did not install it when you installed the game.
  • Q: When I click Run with Subs the game crashes, but it runs fine if I just click Play. Is there any way I can get the game to work with subtitles?
A: Turn off any graphics card control application you may have running (like EVGA Precision, Asus GPU Tweak etc.). Anything that has an overlay that gives you temp, proc usage and other data may interfere with the subtitle mod. Read more.
  • Q: Anyone know what happened to the Windowed Fullscreen mod?
A: It's included in the subtitle mod. Run the AA2Play launcher, click Config Subs and then check Windowed Fullscreen.
Maker personality translation issue
  • Q: I have an issue with the Maker personality translation not working (see Maker personality translation issue on the right) and I set my locale to Japanese.
A3: If none of the above solutions work for you you can try this mod (apply it with Illusion Wizzard). Note that you will also need to fix your karaoke folder names, which can be done with this. Warning: The consequences of using the mod are not completely known and you should only use it if the two first solutions didn't work!
  • Q:My game keep on crash whenever I start with sub or without.
A1: If you are on Windows 10 and you use AAUnlimited, try changing the script settings, enabling 'wined3d' and if you have enabled 'win10fix' disable it. It seems to be a problem with the NVIDIA configuration caused with the d3d9.dll. Performance will be affected, but it works with the latest drivers.
A2: Alternatively, if you are on Windows 10 and use AAUnlimited with an NVidia card, you can also roll back to version 411.70 of the GeForce Ready driver and use the D3D9.dll method, or the 'win10fix' within AAU.

Graphical Issues

  • Q: The girl has a discolored texture in the uncensored region?
A: Some uncensors (like the MKII uncensor included in the HF Patch) requires a special launcher, so make sure that you use the launcher that is designed for the uncensor you have installed. If you installed the HF Patch you should use the desktop shortcuts.
  • Q: The girl has an issue with the legs not looking right?
A1: This can be caused by an issue with the latest English launcher - make sure that you use the latest launcher or HF Patch. If you installed the HF Patch you should use the desktop shortcuts.
A2: If you installed the HEXA Clothing Packs, note that the Cosplay Club only fits thin or normal figure types and the High-Cut Swimsuit only fits thin or normal figure types.
  • Q: Something is not looking right?
A1: It may be a known issue/limitation with the mod(s) you have installed. Read the release post and/or readme file that came with the mod(s)!
A2: Make sure that you're using the latest version of the mod(s) or HF Patch (if you previously used it). All mods are made by people in their free time and they may have issues which could be fixed in a later version.

Performance

  • Q: On Windows 10 after the Anniversary Update (version 1607), performance is now slow and jerky during any interactive 3D action.
A: This is a result of an update to the DirectX9 3D DLL. The workaround is to replace d3d9.dll in the game installation directory with the previous working version in C:windowssyswow64d3d9.dll (provided you have not deleted it, system32 on 32-bit machines). If you use a subtitle mod (which also requires its own d3d9.dll in the game directory), put your previous d3d9.dll next to it under the name 'd3d9_alt.dll'. The subtitle mod will detect it and use it in place of the one in the system folder. For more information, go here.
  • Q: On Windows 10 (version 1909+ ) the performance is still slow and jerky with the above d3d9.dll fix.
A: Try the DXVK project which converts DirectX9 to Vulkan. First remove any compatibility settings, d3d9.dll, d3d9_alt.dll previously added. Download the latest release (.tar.gz) from GitHub. In the downloaded file properties, tick Unblock if shown and Apply. Extract the .gz, then .tar, and copy x32d3d9.dll into your AA installation folder. It works with both render modes in the AA settings, however 'Mode 2' has better performance. DXVK ignores game profiles set in the graphics control panel, so to force anti-aliasing, create a 'dxvk.conf' in the AA installation folder with the line d3d9.forceSwapchainMSAA = 8 to apply an 8x anti-aliasing.
  • Q: After the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, the AA2Edit still lags, even after fixing the main game with the d3d9.dll patch?
A: Copy your d3d9_alt.dll and d3d9.dll (or d3d9.dll if you have replaced your original ) and place it inside your AA2Edit installation folder. If you have the unlocked version, place a copy inside that folder as well.
  • Q: The game lags when in conversation/H scene, but my AMD graphics should be more than enough for this game?
A: Some people have reported subpar performance using AMD graphics. It may be related to the driver version, so make sure you're up to date. Alternatively you could try older driver versions. Please edit if you find a particular version runs better!
  • Q: The game lags when in conversation/H scene?
A: This may because you have an average cpu and the character(s) on screen has very long hair, big dresses, accessories, large breasts and/or other physics enabled things. Try designing characters with short hair, no accessories and dress them in swimsuits and see if it helps.
  • Q: The game lags when in conversation/H scene, but my AMD graphics should be more than enough for this game?
A: If you installed the Subtitles mod (or the Windowed Fullscreen 2.0 mod) it can because of that and you could try to remove the mod, i.e. delete <your AA2Play folder>d3d9.dll.
  • Q: I experience freezing and/or several seconds loading each time a conversation starts. Sometimes the mouse cursor is even spinning indicating not responding application, please help!?
A1: If you have installed the hires skins you should uninstall them because your PC is not powerful enough (>3GHz i7, SSD recommended). You might experience tolerable performance if you install the lowres version.
A2: Other things to consider: Mods like the 3D uncensor also introduces slightly longer load times because of more complex mesh/more to load, though the impact is only a small fraction of the hires skins. The HF Patch includes the SVII uncensor, which is very light on performance, so you could try that (remember to check all the launchers when you change the uncensor because otherwise you will have incompatible launchers installed).
  • Q: The game lags when in conversation/H scene. My laptop has two graphics adapters, but for some reason the game defaults to the slow one?
A: If you installed the Subtitles mod (or Windowed Fullscreen 2.0 mod) it can because of that and you should just remove the mod, i.e. delete <your AA2Play folder>d3d9.dll.
  • Q:Game crash when enter sex scene. In window 10.
  • Q: Im playing this game on the latest windows 10 v 1909 and it runs lag as hell
A: Theres no fix yet even you change the d3d9.dll it will crash the game itself well just have to wait the next windows build to fix the performance lost

Installation

  • Q: Will the game run on Windows 10?
A: Not without issues unless you switch system locale to Japanese, which you really shouldn't because you will experience issues with other stuff. You can't use AppLocale or HF pAppLoc. You can use NTLEA, but the subtitle mod will not work. The best alternative seems to be Locale Emulator, read more.
  • Q: It's telling me to insert the 'commercial version disk' even though I already have it mounted AND renamed it DISK1.mdf. I'm already in Japanese locale, and I still tried running it with applocale?
A: Mount C:DownloadsAA2DISK1.iso with Daemontools Lite (other mounting software has been known to fail with Japanese games, so please use Daemontools Lite! - it's completely free)
  • Q: I can't get PowerISO to mount disk 2 and 3. Any help?
A: Mount C:DownloadsAA2DISK1.iso with Daemontools Lite (other mounting software has been known to fail with Japanese games, so please use Daemontools Lite! - it's completely free)
  • Q: While installing, the game complains about Data1.cab from disk1. Help!?
A: Make sure that you mounted DISK1.mdf (i.e. ジンコウガクエン2.mdf renamed to DISK1.mdf). If that doesn't help, try extracting ジンコウガクエン2.mdf again, rename it to DISK1.mdf, and follow the quick step-by-step guide below.
  • Q: While setting up the DLC HF patch, the setup can't detect AA2 in my Artificial Academy 2 folder. Any help?
A: You're pointing the HF Patch to a folder which doesn't contain the correct files (the patch will look for some files needed during patching to verify the location). Possible causes are that you renamed the folder after installing the game or you changed the folder suggested by the HF patch. Make sure that you point the patch to the actual folder with the installed game files and then use the Fix registry feature of the HF patch or reinstall the game as suggested in the quick step-by-step guide below.

Misc

  • Q: Where do I put custom eye textures?
A: If you installed AA2 Edit to the location suggested below: C:illusionAA2Editdatatextureeye
  • Q: I'm missing some hair in AA2Edit/Maker and some of the buttons are greyed out/disabled! Help?
A: Make sure that you have installed all the DLC (read more below) and Append Set I+II.
  • Q: How do I get downloaded characters to work? They just show up blank in the maker??
A: Some browsers have problems saving the image file properly when using 'Save image' option.. try using 'Save link as'. If that doesn't work, click on the picture first so it opens with the picture viewer of the website or browser and THEN save it.
  • Q: Does anyone know how to use SweetFX (need SMAA + Sharpening) alongside with Subtitle Overlay? They both use d3d9.dll?
A: You can rename the SweetFX d3d9.dll to d3d9_alt.dll and then the Subtitle mod will use it.
  • Q: I downloaded a character, but the hair and/or accessories in the game doesn't look like on the card. I checked my Maker and the hair and/or accessory seems to be missing! What's going on?
A: The character has been created using one or more hair/accessory mods. Most hair/accessories are in the BigPack HEXA mod compilation, so you should try installing that as the first thing. If that doesn't include the mod(s) you may have luck investigating the character description or maybe find information about where to get the mods where you downloaded the character.
  • Q: How can I listen to singing at karaoke?
A: Choose or download .wav or .ogg files for the songs you want to hear, and place them in data/sound subfolders corresponding to the kanji of the personality types to sing them. If you still cannot hear them on Windows 7 or 8, download the DirectShow codecs from Vorbis.com Windows Setup page.

Aa2 Registry Fix

  • Q: How can I run the game in a higher resolution than 1920x1200, e.g. 2560x1440?
A: The only known workaround is by hex editing <AA2Play folder>datagsd.cfg. Note that it is highly recommended to set anti aliasing via your graphics adapter's control panel instead of using the built-in anti aliasing in the game (read more at the bottom of this page).

While you can download pre-installed versions of the game, it is recommended that you get a download which contains the DVD images and install the game yourself.

Quick step-by-step guide

Note that this covers installing the game from scratch. If you already installed the Maker (aka. AA2 Edit) you can skip the AA2 Edit steps (i.e. step 6-9).

Startup.exe: Click the fourth button to install AA2, fifth button to install AA2 Edit
Click highlighted button to change the destination
It should look like this before you click (N)
Insert disk 2
  1. Extract ジンコウガクエン2.mdf, DISK2.mdf and DISK3.mdf (DO NOT extract the .mds files!) to e.g. C:DownloadsAA2
  2. Rename ジンコウガクエン2.mdf to DISK1.mdf
  3. Mount C:DownloadsAA2DISK1.mdf. If you're using Windows 8 you can mount it without other programs, otherwise you'll need Daemontools Lite (other mounting software has been known to fail with Japanese games, so please use Daemontools Lite - it's completely free)
  4. DO NOT autorun, but explore the mounted dvd and right-click Startup.exe and select Run with Japanese locale as administrator (you need HF pApploc for the right-click options).
  5. Refer to Startup.exe picture on the right: If you can click the second button it means you have to install DirectX 9.0c. The game will not work if you ignore it!
  6. Click the third button from the top (ref. Startup.exe picture) to start the AA2 Edit (aka. Maker) setup.
  7. Click the button with (N) once.
  8. IMPORTANT: Change the destination to e.g. C:illusionAA2Edit if you want to be able to play the game! (see picture on the right)
  9. Click (N) again a few times and wait while AA2 Edit installs (will only take a few seconds).
  10. When the AA2 Edit setup is complete: Click the fourth button from the top (ref. Startup.exe picture) to start the game (AA2 Play) setup.
  11. Click the button with (N) once.
  12. IMPORTANT: Change the destination to e.g. C:illusionAA2 if you want to be able to play the game! (see picture on the right)
  13. Click N again a few times, and lastly (I), and wait while the game installs.
  14. About a third through the setup will ask for DISK2 (ref. Insert disk 2 picture on the right): Mount DISK2.iso with Daemontools Lite, wait a few seconds and then click OK.
  15. About two thirds through the setup will ask for DISK3: Mount DISK3.iso with Daemontools Lite, wait a few seconds and then click OK.
  16. Wait while the game finishes the installation.
  17. To run the game you need to mount DISK1.mdf again and right-click C:illusionAA2AA2Play.exe and select Run with Japanese locale.

Next step

When you have successfully installed and tested the game you probably want to install official patches, DLC and essential mods like English translations and uncensor.

The (by far) easiest way is to use the HF Patch (if you don't know it, 'HF' is a well-known acronym for 'Have Fun').

The HF Patch

The latest version of the HF Patch includes all the official patches, so you don't have to worry about installing any of those. It also includes the no-dvd fix, English translations and UI as well as uncensors.

If you had just installed the game then you have to install the official DLCs before the HF Patch. The easiest way to install them is through the DLC HF Patch, which contains every official DLC.

Regfixer

If you downloaded a pre-installed version of the game or installed the game to a bad location (i.e. one with Unicode/unreadable characters) then both the HF patch and the DLC HF patch can fix the game's registry entries. To fix the registry, just do these simple steps:

  1. Rename the game folder(s) before running either patch.
  2. When the patch shows the suggested location, correct it to the renamed folder(s), e.g. C:illusionAA2.
  3. Check the fix registry component(s) (at the bottom of the component list) when running the patch.
  4. Wait for the patch to do its job.
  5. Play the game!

Please note that fixing the registry is not recommended because it will break uninstalling. Fixing the registry will make the game work, but you should not expect to be able to uninstall it without manual work.

HF Patching for Dummies

This section describes how to use the HF Patch.

  1. Install the game as outlined above.
  2. Download the Artificial Academy 2 HF Patch.
  3. Read the patch release post while downloading, so you know what is required (and what to expect).
  4. Run the patch by double-clicking on the file you just downloaded.
  5. Read the information in the beginning and make sure that you have enough free disk space to run the patch before you click Next.
  6. Click Next and review the components. The Recommended installation is all you need to get the game updated, translated and uncensored, but you might want to check out the options anyway.
  7. Click Next and consider installing an icon on your desktop (TIP: The shortcut using AppLocale is highly recommended, because you still have to run the translated game with Japanese locale. Using the shortcut will make it completely transparent that you actually run the game with Japanese locale).
  8. Click Next to start patching your game. Beware that patching your game will change installed files and it cannot be reversed or uninstalled. Therefore you should keep the original files, so you can restore the game to it's original state later on if needed. Having the original files might be required if you plan to install additional or different mods later on.
  9. Let the patch work (you can do other stuff while it's working, just don't start/mess with the game). Patching may take several minutes and the progress bar may not move. Just be patient. It is guaranteed to work if you installed the game as outlined above.
  10. Play the updated, translated and uncensored game by double-clicking the 'Artificial Academy 2' desktop icon. :)

TIP: You can move the desktop shortcut to anywhere you prefer (some prefer to have it in the game folder) and it will still work.

Note: It is safe to run the patch again if you want to install additional components and/or change options. Just deselect the components you previously installed and patching will be relatively quick.

The easy/correct order of installing stuff is as follows:

  1. Install the game as outlined above.
  2. Install the Artificial Academy 2 DLC HF Patch.
  3. Install the Append Set I add-on.
  4. Install the Append Set II add-on.
  5. Install the latest Artificial Academy 2 HF Patch (the latest version includes all official patches, so you don't have to worry about your game not being up to date).
  6. Have fun playing the game fully updated and with the essential mods!

Note: If you later want to update your game with the latest official patches and/or essential mods, you should just get the latest AA2 HF Patch. Dragon quest v ps2 iso.

  6. Done.

The Append Set add-ons adds new personalities, hairs and costumes. The Append Sets are not free and therefore they will never be included in a HF Patch. To get it you have to buy Append Set I, buy Append Set II or get it some other way. The HF Patch includes official patches and mods that will patch, translate and uncensor the Append Set I+II if you have them installed when running the patch.

Tips for buying the Append Sets: You have to do it in Japanese to be able to proceed at DMM, so do not choose English language! Instead you should use a browser that can translate the page for you on the fly. Once translated it's pretty straightforward to create an account, enter credit card info, buy a product and download it.

Installing the Append Set I Add-on

FileCopy.exe: Click the left button to copy the files

Follow these easy steps to get the Append Set I correctly installed:

  1. IMPORTANT: Right-click 7-zip (or WinRAR or your preferred extractor) and select Run with Japanese locale (you need HF pApploc for the right-click options).
  2. Use 7-zip (or you preferred extractor) to browse to where you downloaded VJ008700.zip and open it.
  3. Extract it to e.g. C:Downloadsappend.
  4. Open the C:Downloadsappendジンコウガクエン2アペンドセット folder.
  5. Right-click FileCopy.exe with and select Run with Japanese locale.
  6. Click the left button and wait while it is working.
  7. Click the right button to exit FileCopy.exe.

Alternative

If you can't get FileCopy.exe to work (very unlikely if you followed the above guide to the point), you can hack your way with the following:

  1. IMPORTANT: Right-click 7-zip (or WinRAR or your preferred extractor) and select Run with Japanese locale (you need HF pApploc for the right-click options).
  2. Use 7-zip to browse to where you downloaded VJ008700.zip and open it.
  3. Extract it to e.g. C:Downloadsappend.
  4. Open the C:Downloadsappendジンコウガクエン2アペンドセット folder.
  5. Copy all files/folders from C:Downloadsappendジンコウガクエン2アペンドセットsetupmain to <your AA2Play folder>.
  6. Copy all files/folders from C:Downloadsappendジンコウガクエン2アペンドセットsetupedit to <your AA2Edit folder>.

Installing the Append Set II Add-on

It is essentially the same procedure as for Append Set I above, just with slightly different folder names.

Installing the Append Set I Support Patch
